Lillyhall in Workington is the Group's head office and its biggest site. Testing, inspection, training and radiation protection all work from the same row of units on Hallwood Road, so a job that needs NDT, a mechanical test and a qualified report can stay under one roof from start to finish.
Most of our Cumbrian work is for the West Cumbria nuclear supply chain, fabricators and manufacturers. We also take samples posted in from across the UK for laboratory testing.

What we do in Cumbria
- NDT on site and in the lab: radiography, ultrasonic and phased array, magnetic particle and dye penetrant.
- Mechanical testing: tensile, Charpy impact, hardness and bend tests, with macro and micro examination. Clients can come in and witness the machining and testing.
- Positive material identification: OES in the lab where the carbon grade matters, and XRF on site where it doesn't.
- Welder and procedure qualification: coupon testing through to the paperwork.
- NDT Level 3 services: procedures, technique sheets and audits.
- Specialist testing: ferroxyl, passivity, CALT leak testing and container inspection.
Areas we cover
West Cumbria, Carlisle, Barrow-in-Furness and the Lake District, with regular site work into Lancashire and the North of England. Laboratory samples come in from anywhere in the UK.
