Shell Engineering are a fabrication company in Birtley, Chester-le-Street, and a client of our North East business, JML Inspection. On a Wednesday morning in September they asked for radiography of 16 butt welds on eight check valves, eight 3” and eight 4”, with everything needed for their client’s inspector from Saipem at 10am the next day.
JML’s Durham team was fully booked, so the valves came across to our Lillyhall facility in Cumbria the same morning. Our PCN Level 2 radiographers ran them through two radiography compounds that day using Selenium-75 to ASME B31.3, alongside dye penetrant inspection, and the work was complete in time for the inspection. It is what being one Group is for: when one business is at capacity, another picks it up.

Services undertaken include
- Radiography of 16 butt welds on eight check valves, 3” and 4”
- Selenium-75 across two radiography compounds, same day
- Compliance with ASME B31.3
- Dye penetrant inspection
- PCN Level 2 radiographers
- Requested Wednesday morning, complete for a 10am client inspection on Thursday
“Test Inspect are a pleasure to work with. Their NDT service is second to none, their inspectors are exceptional, and they consistently go above and beyond to deliver — often at the drop of a hat. Whatever the challenge, they always find a way to make it happen.”
