The Group's North East work runs from Bowburn, just off the A1(M) south of Durham. It's the home of JML Inspection, which John Lidster founded in 2015 and which now works inside the Test Inspect Group with the same inspectors.
From here we cover welding and coating inspection, NDT and site radiography for fabricators, manufacturers and project owners across the region. Anything that needs destructive testing goes to our laboratory at Lillyhall, with the results reported back through the same team.

What we do in the North East
- Welding inspection: visual and dimensional checks against the code, plus witnessing and document review.
- Coating inspection: surface preparation, film thickness and the conditions a coating is applied in.
- Client and vendor inspection: independent inspection at suppliers' works and on site for project owners.
- Heat treatment verification: witnessing heat treatment and reviewing its records.
- NDT: magnetic particle, dye penetrant, ultrasonic including phased array, and site radiography.
- Laboratory testing: tensile, Charpy, hardness and macro work at our Lillyhall lab.
