Test Inspect Group has appointed Saturn Four Media, the Carlisle communications agency, as our communications delivery partner. Daley Rogers, their co-founder and strategic lead, and Jimmy Docherty, their head of creative, have been working alongside us since the summer, and from here on they are part of how we talk to each other — and, in time, to everyone else.

Why start inside

Test Inspect Group is Flawed, Responsive, JML Inspection, RadPro and Smart Test Technologies. Each business came with its own history, its own habits and its own way of saying what it does. That is a strength on site. It is less of one when a technician in Durham and a technician in Southampton would describe the company they work for in two completely different ways.

So the first job was not a campaign. It was getting our own house in order: making sure everyone across the Group hears the same things, at the same time, from the people who should be saying them — and has a say in them.

A 52-week plan, built together

What came out of the work with Saturn Four is a year-long communications plan, one week at a time. It starts internally, on purpose:

  • A weekly Team@ email to everyone in the Group, backed by short videos recorded by colleagues themselves — not a newsletter written about people, but people speaking for themselves.
  • Our purpose, vision and behaviours, owned rather than laminated. The early weeks take them one at a time and ask what they mean in the work each business actually does.
  • One principal story a week once the foundations are in place, told outwards on LinkedIn, Facebook and here on the site.

The year runs in four stages. Foundation introduces the roadmap, our shared purpose, the businesses and the rhythm we will keep. Connection links people, capability and customer value across the Group. Reinforcement repeats the standards and the proof that build confidence. Maturity uses evidence, leadership and the customer's own voice to show one Group with one identity.

What we want everyone to own

Our purpose is Saving Lives. Protecting Communities. It is not a slogan we bolted on — it is the reason inspection exists. The pressure vessel that does not fail, the lifting gear that holds, the weld that was found before it mattered.

Our vision is to be the foremost certification mark in UK safety-critical industries. The behaviours we hold ourselves to are simple to say and harder to live: Accountable. Reliable. Innovative. Responsive.

None of that means much if it only lives in a slide deck. The point of doing the internal work first is that when we say these things outside the business, the people who do the work recognise themselves in them.

In Saturn Four's words

“Test Inspect is exactly the kind of business we love working alongside — a team of good, ambitious, straight-talking people who are proud of where they're from. There's a real alignment between our teams and, as their communications delivery partner, we're able to work quickly, stay close to the business and turn what Lee and the team are doing into clear, consistent communications that genuinely sound like Test Inspect. One of the most important parts of our relationship is our trust in each other and a willingness to challenge and be held accountable, which ensures the highest standards are achieved by the entire team.”

What you will see

If you work with us, you will hear from us more often and more consistently — from the people doing the work, not just from the top. If you follow us, expect one proper story a week rather than scattered updates, and a professional film series from the Group later this year.

If you are one of our customers, nothing about how we test and inspect changes. What changes is that you will find it easier to see who we are, how our businesses fit together, and why we do it.

Follow Test Inspect Group on LinkedIn to see it unfold.
