Lee Grears
Lee founded Test Inspect in 2014 and today leads Test Inspect Group, which brings Flawed, Responsive Southampton, Responsive Training Services and JML Inspection together with Smart Test Technologies for product design and manufacture and RADPro Group for radiation protection, all under one certified framework. He is responsible for the governance and delivery of the Group's testing, inspection and training across safety-critical and regulated industries. He also makes sure technical integrity, regulatory compliance and standards stay the same whichever company a client is dealing with.
He came up through the trade, not around it. He started in welding and fabrication at BAE Systems Submarine Solutions in Barrow-in-Furness, qualified in inspection and testing on board the Astute class submarines, and stayed on for four more years as a senior inspector. He then brought that discipline home to West Cumbria, working at Sellafield and with Cavendish Nuclear and building experience across nuclear, oil and gas, marine, renewables, power generation and petrochemical work. He is qualified to PCN Level 3 in four NDT methods and is a CSWIP 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector, and he still works closely with clients and delivery teams every day.
Away from the inspection bay, Lee is happiest writing code or with a soldering iron in his hand. He is the driving force behind FLAWHawk, the Group's own software platform, and designs the electronics behind the Group's radiography safety systems. He sees it as the same instinct that made him an inspector: find the fault, understand why it happened, and fix it properly. That is the standard he holds the Group to, because the people who depend on our work never see it.
