Gareth McNally
Gareth is Head of Operations at Lillyhall, where he runs Flawed: the Group's mechanical and destructive testing laboratory, its flawed test piece design and manufacture, and its NDT services. He is also the Group's lead Radiation Protection Supervisor. He started out as a radiographer at Sellafield, working on major projects across the site, then joined the Group in 2016 as an NDT technician on nuclear, oil and gas, petrochemical and MOD work. He worked his way up from there to run the site.
His technical foundation combines academic study with practical certification. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Non-Destructive Testing from the University of Northampton, alongside an FdSc in NDT, and is a member of the British Institute of NDT (MInstNDT). He is qualified to PCN Level 3 in Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI) and to PCN Level 2 in magnetic particle, dye penetrant, radiography and weld inspection, alongside his ICorr Level 2 Painting Inspector qualification. That mix means he understands not just how to carry out a test, but why the method works and where its limits lie, which is exactly what clients in safety-critical industries need from the people inspecting their work.
Away from Test Inspect, Gareth's time is spent with his family and on football: he is happiest watching and playing, and is an avid Manchester United fan. He sees a lot of the game in the day job: results come from a team where everyone knows their role, gets the basics right every time and backs each other up when it matters. It's the same approach he brings to every inspection, because in both, the details decide the outcome.
